In recent times, however, a successor has reportedly been in the works and, according to a number of case makers, it appears Apple could launch the device as soon as next month.

Unlike previous rumors, the manufacturers present at the Global Sources Mobile Electronics show in Hong Kong don’t expect the new model to completely adopt the design language debuted on the iPhone X. Instead, the iPhone SE 2 will continue to use TouchID which means a small 4-inch display will likely be present once again. Nevertheless, the smartphone is expected to follow in the footsteps of the company’s newer devices in one aspect by removing the 3.5mm headphone jack altogether, which should also allow Apple to slim down the smartphone. Furthermore, the iPhone SE 2 could also switch out the aluminum construction of its predecessor in favor of the company’s newer glass build, which will most likely result in wireless charging support. Regarding power, the smartphone will be equipped with the slightly newer A10 Fusion processor that debuted in the iPhone 7 lineup. This is most likely a cost-cutting effort on Apple’s part in the hope of attracting consumers at lower price points.

The Silicon Valley-based giant is yet to confirm any plans in regards to the launch of an iPhone SE successor but, with the manufacturers expecting the device to be released next month, it should only be a matter of weeks before Apple confirms an event. Alternatively, and what would probably be a more likely scenario, the company may wait until its annual WWDC event, which kicks off June 4, to announce the device.
