KILIMANJARO: TTCL Corporation has embarked on a programme to establish internet services in all tourist attractions in the country.

TTCL Director General, Eng Peter Ulanga told some countries’ ambassadors who are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro through the special campaign of ‘Twenzetu Kileleni’ that after installing internet at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, the focus turned to Machame Gate—another route to the mountain summit.

“The internet attracts zero charges to enable mountaineers to communicate their climbing experience with others. This attracts others to come and scale the mount,” Mr Ulanga said in a statement read on his behalf by Mr John Yahya from the TTCL Headquarters.

The ambassadors and high commissioners are back in the country to commemorate the 62 years of Tanganyika Independence under the slogan ‘Twenzetu Kileleni’ loosly translating to ‘Let’s go to the Top’. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain in Africa with 5,895 metres.

Additionally, TTCL installed free Wi-Fi in public areas such the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, the University of Dar es Salaam, and the Institute of Finance Management (IFM).

The Deputy Commissioner of Conservation (DCC), Mr Herman Batiho, thanked TTCL for its decision to improve communication services in tourist attraction areas to increase the number of tourists in the country.

The country started with a single national park in 1959, the Serengeti National Park. Today, post-independence, there are over 20 national parks.
