Huawei Tanzania, Vodacom ink deal for digital growth in Tanzania

DAR SALAAM: HUAWEI Tanzania and Vodacom Tanzania have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Dar es Salaam, for a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Strategic Partnership, aimed at addressing societal challenges, especially in the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) sector.

Inking the deal recently, Huawei Tanzania Managing Director, Mr Damon Zhang said the partnership is based on their Chinese saying that to go faster, you go alone and to go farther you go together, hence, the essence of joining Vodacom Tanzania in the mission.

He further said that at Huawei, they believe in the power of collaboration and partnership in driving professional positive change, especially in bridging the digital gap in Tanzania.

He added: “Just a few weeks ago, Huawei had the privilege to join the launch of Vodacom Digital Accelerator Session 3, where we confirmed Huawei’s commitment to partner with Vodacom and positively impact Tanzania society, especially the youth.

“Today’s signing signifies our shared vision to leverage our respective strengths and resources to address key societal challenges, especially in the ICT sector.

“As you understand, through the partnership, we aim to implement the two programs namely DigiTruck and Digital Accelerator to empower individuals, support local communities, and contribute to the overall development in Tanzania.”

That comes with the background of the Chinese’s company dedication to work hand in hand the telecom firm to ensure successful execution of the initiatives.

Likewise, Mr Tom Tao, Deputy Managing Director of Huawei Tanzania, said that Huawei stands ready to continue with the partnership beyond the MoU signing ceremony.

He said the MoU is a good pleasure for them because it stimulates social responsibility and strategic partnerships between the two companies.

“We have been here for around 18 years since 2006, thus, with our corporation, we have done corporate social responsibility (CSR) for almost 16 years in Tanzania,” he said.

“And I can give some examples, like we donated four ICT items in Tanzania, including the University of Dar es Salaam, the University of Dodoma, and other technical and information technology in Mbeya and here in Dar es Salaam,” he added.

Earlier, the telecom company hosted the Future Ready Summit, where it committed to close digital gaps in the country with collaboration of other partners, which share common values and responsibility in the country.

On his part, Vodacom Tanzania Managing Director, Philip Besimiire, said that with the partnership, they believe Huawei’s pool of IT experts and technologies will be an added advantage in the teamwork.

Director of Corporate Affairs and Vodacom Foundation Tanzania Zuwena Farah noted that, the partnership will give milage to Vodacom and improve the provision of services to its customers as well as their counterpart.
