PREPARATIONS for the Nane Nane Agricultural Show to be held in Lindi at national level next months are going on well despite a setbacks, due to the absence of somekey participants.

The Agriculture Council of Tanzania (ACT), the largest association for private players in the sector, will not take part in this year’s Nane Nane Show in Lindi. ACT Communications Officer, Mr Cleophas Rwechungura, said the council will instead participate in Eastern Zone’s Tungi grounds in Morogoro.

“Regarding participation of the private sector members of ACT at Nane Nane Show in Lindi, ACT members will decide on their own,” said Mr Rwechungura.

Responding to Business Standard questions relating to the event and Lindi Regional Commissioner, Mr Ludovick Mwananzila’s call to the private sector to actively participate in the ongoing preparations, Mr Rwechungura said many private sector members will consider logistics to travel to Lindi.

“ACT members will make individual decisions based on the environment in Lindi but we as ACT have decided to participate at Tungi grounds in Morogoro,” he pointed out. Last week, Mr Mwananzila made a passionate plea to exhibitors to take part in the ongoing preparations for the show saying so far all district couthw events.

“Preparations are going on very well, we have finished paving roads at the show grounds and now we are working on electricity and water supply,” Mr Mwananzira said over the phone from Lindi.

He said apart from Lindi and Mtwara district councils being at Ngongo exhibition grounds, Tigo is the only mobile phone service company while Ministries of Local Governments and Regional Administration and that of Fisheries and Livestock Development.

“We call upon state enterprises, private companies such as mobile phone service companies, beverage companies and pension funds to come and work with us in ensuring that this event is successful,” Mwananzira said.

The Lindi RC paid tribute to Tanzania Agricultural Society (TASO) and Tigo with all the district councils in his region and neighbouring Mtwara for making major changes on the ground to meet deadline of the exhibitions.

“We have a huge area enough for many exhibitors and people who want to do real business here at Ngongo and facilities are being upgraded daily,” he noted while urgingbanks also to take part in the annual show.

Nane Nane shows which are held annually to commemorate the Farmers’ Day are normally held in Dodoma and Morogoro regions but last year, TASO announce Lindi as next host.

TASO Chairman, Mr Engelbery Moyo said earlier this year that for the first time, Southern Zone will host this year’s Nane Nane show. “TASO calls upon all stakeholders in agriculture, livestock keeping and fisheries to start making preparations for the show which will be held in a different location this year,” Mr Moyo told journalists earlier this year.

Nane Nane zonal shows are hosted in seven zones namely in Arusha for the Northern Zone, Eastern-in Morogoro, Lake in Mwanza, Highlands in Mbeya, Southern in Lindi, Mtwara and Songea, Western in Tabora and Central in Dodoma.

Commercial banks which work closely with farmers such as NMB Bank Plc, CRDB Bank Plc and TIC Development Bank are yet to start preparations on the ground but reports say they will deploy their teams this week.

Apart from products and services awareness, NMB will utilize NaneNane exhibitions to educate kids, parents and other visitors about financial fitness, the statement added.
