Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda is scheduled to open a two-day Southern Highlands Investment forum for Mbeya, Iringa and Njombe regions on Friday.

According to the Mbeya regional commissioner Abbas Kandoro, the forum is geared at promoting investment opportunities in the regions.

“The event is expected to attract over 300 local investors,” he said in a media statement released yesterday.

“The forum will involve exhibition sessions, one to one business and development partnership negotiations, networking sessions as well as optional business field tours and excursion,” he detailed.

The motto of this year forum is: Investments for Social and Economic Development in the Southern Highlands Zone, Kandoro noted assuring stakeholders that all the necessary preparations have been completed.

“The conference will feature a showcase of different products available in the three regions to be exhibited by traders, farmers and service providers for the two days,” he went on to add.

At a previous occasion, Kandoro had told Municipal Council directors in the region that they must set aside areas for investment before August of this year, when the forum begins.

“We cannot attract investors if municipal authorities aren’t playing their role…you must with immediate effect allocate land for investment,’’ he ordered.

He said failure to set aside areas for investment and priority sectors for the same means they will also fail to reach on cite contracts with investors at the forum.

“If you do not provide ready made clear and systematic investment options then investors will not enter into any contracts and you will lose the opportunity,” he warned them.

He expressed his dismay over the fact that it is almost a year since the resolution was made but no any director has adhered to the pledge.

For his part the Vice President of Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture (TCCIA) in the region Julius Kaijage urged the government to better the investment climate for small-scale entrepreneurs.

He said they played a major role in economic development hence major efforts were needed to make them increase their contribution to the government coffers.
