CMSA inks pact with UK institute to promote capital markets professionalism

The Capital Markets and Securities Authority (CMSA) and the UK’s Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (CISI) have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at promoting certification programmes of capital market professionals in Tanzania.

 
Speaking before the signing ceremony on Monday in Dar es Salaam, the Lord Mayor of London Fiona Woolf, urged CMSA to make sure that all local capital market experts adhere to the ethics.
 
She said the pact would spur job opportunities and benefit more Tanzanian youth.
 
She said the collaboration will help local capital markets to position its self in the global talent pool for professionals in the industry and financial training.
 
For her part, the CMSA Acting Chief Executive Officer Fatma Simba, said the authority is cognisant that CISI is one of the largest and most widely respected professional bodies for professionals working in the capital markets industry worldwide.
 
“We are aware that every year, over 40,000 examinations are taken in more than 50 countries around the world by candidates who are employed by 92 percent of licensed capital market intermediaries and the world’s top banks,” she said.
 
She noted that the partnership will also help to increase the financial services expertise across the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and the East Africa Community.
 
She concluded that the partnership will contribute to the capital markets which have an integral part to play in the financial sector deepening and inclusion by increasing financial literacy in Tanzania.
