Bank M supports school desks campaign

BANK M has donated 80m/- in support of the Hassan Maajar Trust (HMT) second phase of its desk to every child campaign.

Speaking to reporters in Dar es Salaam, HMT Chairperson, Ms Mwanaidi Maajar, said in Dar es Salaam that a fund raising dinner is scheduled to be held on October 31 at the Diamond Jubilee Hall in the city.

She said during the annual event expected to be graced by President Jakaya Kikwete about, 500m/- is projected to be raised for buying 6,000 desks to be distributed to 20,000 public primary schools in eight regions.

'We are once again organising a fund raising event so that we can give chance to different corporate and individuals to participate towards contributing this noble course,' said Ambassador Maajar.

She expressed her satisfaction for continued support they have been receiving from Bank M in staging the event, which has proved to be an important platform for advocacy and educating stakeholders to contribute for the project. 'Our goal is to ensure that no child sits on the floor.

The support from Bank M will enable HMT to reach more schools and thousands of children especially in rural areas,' she said.

Bank M Deputy Chief Executive Officer, MS Jacquieline Woiso, said she was proud being associated with the HMT and in such a short span of time thousands of pupils have benefitted.

'Gradually sitting on the floor will be a history. This is just the beginning and we believe that collectively we will eventually solve one of the most serious problems in our public schools,' she said.

A Desk for Every Child is HMT flagship programme as part of its mission to improve the learning environment in public schools. Last year 5,000 desks were donated and 15,000 children benefitted.
