AIRTEL Tanzania through its education sector support programme (Shule Yetu) has donated science textbooks worth over 15m/- to five schools in Makete District, Njombe Region.

Secondary schools that benefited from the programme are Iwawa, Kipagalo, Mlondwe, Makete Girls and Iperere. Minister of State in the Vice-President’s Office (Environment), Dr Binilith Mahenge, who was the chief guest, said the support complemented the government’s efforts to improve education sector.

He said the support was in line with President Jakaya Kikwete’s campaign to improve science education in public primary and secondary schools. “Our country will develop fast if we invest efficiently in the education sector.

The emerging and developed countries have advanced in various sectors due to greater investment in education,” he said. Airtel Business Manager for Southern Highlands Zone, Mr Straton Mushi, said the textbooks donated were for chemistry, physics and mathematics.

“This is part of our programmes to complement government’s efforts to make students develop interest in science subjects,” he said.
