The government is planning to strengthen the public sector management systems to be able to translate economic growth into poverty reduction and sustainable economic development. This was said recently by the deputy Minister of Finance, Adam Malima, during establishment of the Tanzania Community of Practice on Managing of Development Results (MfDR). According to him, the decision came after most of the government officials failed to translate the economic growth into poverty reduction and sustainable economic development. He also said the government will also strengthen result oriented organisation for better service delivery. “It is the duty of the government to enhance regional convergence through managing of development results to improve regional integration and promote knowledge sharing,” he said. He, however, pointed out that the biggest challenge the government is facing is transformation of economy growth to poverty reduction and sustainable development results. To achieve the results, the government has taken steps including unleashing its economic growth potentials, he said. According to him, human economic growth should be the end result in economic transformation, progress or growth. He added that once the government has implemented all the initiatives, it stands a chance of becoming a middle income country by 2025. For her part, the AfDB Resident representative, Tonia Kandiero said the report is part of Africa’s initiatives and will ensure that it is approved by all stakeholders. She said the reports will provide the basis for an effective action plan and implementation that will contribute to mainstream managing for developments results. “It is important to note that the African Community of Practice on managing for Development Results supports the transformation of Africa continent including Tanzania,” she said. She noted that this has resulted to effective public sector management system and credible institutions for greater service delivery. Kandiero said that the vision is consistent with the Africa development bank’s long-term strategy to transform the continent. “Our shared vision of Africa is as the next global emerging market, a continent with strong, integrated domestic markets participating fully in global trade and investment,' she said.
