Thousands of young people received free training on how to market themselves and secure jobs in a highly competitive market during ‘Daraja la Mafanikio’, an all-day seminar for job seekers.

Sponsored by Vodacom Tanzania, the event is an American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) initiative that aims to address the national unemployment crisis through empowering Tanzanian job seekers with strong job-hunting skills and strategies to compete for jobs with corporate employers.

Vodacom is sponsoring the event in line with the government agenda to create employment as it falls in line with their end goal of strengthening job seekers’ confidence and build their abilities to join a competitive job market.

The event also provides a platform to address the socio economic challenges regarding unemployed youth levels in the country.

Vodacom Tanzania Managing Director Rene Meza said: “We were voted the best employer in the 2014 ATE Awards because we are passionate about building the capacity and strengthening the employability of the Tanzanian workforce as a whole. This is why we are open to accepting university students for internship programmes at any point during their academic year.”

Speaking during the event, Anitha John, a graduate in International Relations expressed her gratitude to the American Chamber of Commerce for organising the seminar and said that only within a few hours she learned more job application skills than she had in the past few years.

“Thanks for companies such as Vodacom for supporting this initiatives. There are so many of us out there who do not know where to start to gain employment in a multinational setting such as this. This seminar has opened my eyes and of many others. I am sure and we can now confidently make firm attempts to resolve our unemployment status,” John said.

Vodacom continues to align with the nations Millennium Development Goals, in eradicating poverty by creating equal opportunities for employment and development for the youth and Tanzanians as a whole.
