42 firms benefit from Japanese industrial output philosophy

Kaizen is the practice of continuous improvement originally introduced to the West by Masaaki Imai in his book Kaizen: The Key to Japan’s Competitive Success in 1986. Today it is recognised worldwide as an important pillar of an organisation’s long-term competitive strategy.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mr Uledi Musa said in Dar es Salaam that the ministry in collaboration with the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), will on Monday award manufacturing enterprises for successfully implementing the philosophy.

Also at the ceremony, would be 13 Kaizen Master Trainers and two Kaizen trainers who proved superior in imparting the concept to the stakeholders will be awarded.

“Kaizen philosophy has proved to be an efficient platform in boosting quality and productivity in manufacturing enterprises in just three years of the pilot project executed in 42 firms in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma and Morogoro,” he said.

With the industrialisation drive initiated by the fifth government, it was important for both public and private sector to understand and apply the philosophy in all business firms and manufacturing sector in general.

Tanzania seeks to introduce the philosophy into the country not only in the industrial sector but also spread it into each Tanzanian style of working.
