The Tanga Diocese of the Anglican Church has set up a pension fund to benefit its employees when they retire.
The diocese’s Bishop Mahimbo Mndolwa announces this at a farewell party for Pastor Thomas Ngereza of Mashewa at St Andrews Manundu Church in Korogwe District.
He said the diocese is introducing the fund to enable the retirees to get benefits like housing, vehicles or monies during their elderly life.
The diocese priests led by their chairman Dominic Singano gifted their former colleague 59 iron sheets, 28 (1,800 feet) timber and 10 kg of nails.
The retired priest also received a certificate to honour him for his service in the Church.
The pension fund inauguration function, held at Chumbageni Church in Tanga, was also attended by Zanzibar’s Bishop Michael Afizi and retired Bishop Velentino Mokiwa.
Other retirees - Mary Dismas (a cook), Charles Juma, Peter Rajabu and Itikija Mbaga - came from St Augustine Institute of Health and Allied Sciences–Muheza.
The institute’s Interim Director Elizabeth Chigua also gifted each retiree from her office with 50 iron sheets, 10 kg of nails 28 (1,800 feet) timber and a certificate of recognition for their performance during service.
